IPS Builder: write a monitorable investment policy statement
The IPS Builder walks through the 12 sections of an investment policy statement, from purpose and scope to signatures, and produces a Word or PDF draft. Limits entered as numbers, such as an issuer cap or an allocation range, open in the Limit Checker so the policy can be tested against a holdings file at once.
Runs in your browser. Your draft is kept on this device only.
How it works
The 12 steps follow the investment policy statement template inside Acclimetry. Each step asks for what that section must settle, with sample text you can keep, edit or delete. Your draft is kept in this browser until you reset it.
The export makes a Word document and a PDF on this page. The limits you entered as numbers become a limits file: open it in the Limit Checker to test a portfolio, or download it.
Write limits that can be tested
A limit can only be monitored if it states a number, a denominator and a scope. “No more than 10% of portfolio value at market value in any single issuer” can be tested; “avoid excessive concentration” cannot. The clause library shows common clauses rewritten so they can be tested, and the section guides explain each part of the policy.
What it does not do
The draft is a starting point, not legal advice: a trustee’s policy statement, a charity’s investment policy or a pension scheme’s statement of investment principles each has its own legal requirements, explained in the audience guides. The limits file opens in the Limit Checker; it does not import into Acclimetry, where rules are written, approved and versioned in the rule register.
Questions
Is my draft stored anywhere?
Only in this browser’s local storage, so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent to Acclimetry. Use “Start again” to clear it.
Can I use the template without the builder?
Yes. The investment policy statement template is a Word file with guidance and sample text for each section.
